Just Like Mama Used to Make - Spaghetti Sauce

Who doesn’t love pasta? Especially in the winter, it’s warm, filling and comforting, just like a momma’s hug. The day we came home from the hospital after Jaxzen was born my mom had a huge pot of spaghetti sauce to welcome us home. I’ll never forget how it made me feel so loved and cared for. So, I want to share a staple of my childhood comfort with you! It isn’t exact, because she has made it so often that there aren’t proper measurements, but these are the staple ingredients:

  1. Ground beef (not needed if vegetarian)

  2. Hunt’s Tomato Sauce: Thick & Rich x2 large cans

  3. Hunt’s Tomato Sauce: Onion & Herbs x2 large cans

  4. Hunt’s Tomato Paste: Onion & Herbs x2

  5. Oregano leaves

  6. Italian seasoning

  7. Onion Powder

  8. Garlic Powder

  9. 1x Bay Leaf

  10. Chilli flakes

  11. Vegetables - Anything you want to add, but I typically put in green peppers, mushrooms, celery and maybe some diced canned tomatoes.

Preheat oven to 350F. Start by cooking the ground beef on the stove top, add garlic powder and onion powder to the mix, some salt and Italian seasoning. Once fully cooked, drained the hamburger and set aside. In a large pot (oven safe) combine sauces, tomato paste and add vegetables. Mix in the spices: onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, oregano leaves, chilli flakes (to your liking). Stir. Add ground beef. Stir. Top it off with ONE bay leaf. Place in preheated oven for 2-3 hours.

You can use this sauce for lasagna, parmesan chicken, over top pasta or by itself! Make it today and have meals prepped for the week!
