Date Night In Box - Paint with Love
Last month I posted a video on my YouTube Channel of a date night between Jordan and I (click here to watch it). We have a subscription to Date Night In Boxes. Every month we receive a box with all the things needed for a themed date, last month was Aloha, a Hawaiian inspired date, from appetizers and meal to the Spotify playlist, it was perfectly executed and the funnest date we’ve had. Being able to have a fun night without the ridiculous costs of restaurants and cabs, while saving me the anxiety of a babysitter is a bonus but the thing I love the most is the inspiration for future dates, meals and game because we will definitely be using the items again. The September box was Painting with Love.
This month was a little different, with Jordan working away I was getting . bit impatient to do this month’s Date Night in Box so, I asked my best friend to do it with me! Because I knew I could buy new canvases I figured I could get more use out of this box by enjoying it with a friend as well! It was a great idea. Kendra and I spend a ton of time just doing life together when Jordan is away. If I’m being honest we spend a ton of time binge watching Netflix, Instagramming and chatting, this was the perfect opportunity for us to do something different! We thought we knew nearly everything there was to know about each other, but… yet again, the Date Night In Box was full of surprises and enlightenened us on our different qualities through the table talk topics, the games provided and ultimately, through our paintings.
Yesterday was especially stressful for me, my wedding is a week away, I’m solo momming and trying to do everything on my own, I’d reached a breaking point. I could not believe how much I needed this Date Night Box. I realized that while I’m Netflix binging my mind runs wild, I’m usually on my phone or computer and doing 101 other things while it’s playing the background, with the Painting with Love box I was able to be completely present, to shut off my brain from all the things I need to get done, all the things making me anxious and just paint.
There were two options for the painting portion of the date, a step by step video or to let our imagination run wild and outline a photo with glue then paint around it, we chose the second option. I will complete the first option when Jordan is home and let you know how it goes! Accessing the creative side of my brain was extremely therapeutic, it was calming and free of any pressure. Kendra and I both had a ton of fun, with very little conversation we still had a blast. We were both able to be present, I didn’t even document it on Instagram, shocking!! I know.
Through Date Night in Box I have learned things about me that I didn’t know, this box showed me that I am creative and calm, two things I would have never believed. I always say how I want a “hobby” that I can do at home, and last night I found it: painting!
